The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation (AKF) commenced a series of engagements with candidates contesting the upcoming local government elections in the City of Johannesburg, starting with an engagement with the RISE Mzansi mayoral candidate today.
The engagements form part of the Foundation’s staff local government education programme, aimed at deepening understanding of the policies, priorities and leadership approaches of those seeking public office.
As part of this programme, the Foundation will engage mayoral candidates and local ward councillors across party lines. The discussions will provide an opportunity for direct engagement on local government priorities. The initiative is non-partisan. The Foundation believes that constructive engagement across the political spectrum is important in strengthening democratic participation, ethical leadership and accountable local government.
