Our Annual Youth Camp 2025 brought together young activists at Dimalachite River Lodge on the Vaal River for a dynamic and immersive weekend of learning, collaboration, and connection.
Throughout the camp, participants engaged in a variety of activities – from cooking and braai competitions to river rafting and colour splash challenges – that strengthened teamwork, trust, and problem-solving. These experiences reinforced an important lesson: meaningful change is built through cooperation, respect, and embracing diverse perspectives.
The programme also offered space for deeper reflection and learning. Defend Our Democracy joined the camp to lead a session on anti-corruption and whistleblowing, emphasising the bravery required to speak out and the importance of safeguarding those who do. Participants further explored the life and values of Ahmed Kathrada through workbook activities, drawing connections between his legacy and their own journeys as young activists. Conversations on elections and the 1976 student uprising helped place their activism within a broader historical and democratic context.
Youth Camp 2025 was a celebration of unity, resilience, and youth leadership. It highlighted the power of young people to learn from one another, confront injustice, and build a future rooted in integrity and hope.
We are proud to support this growing network of young changemakers and looks forward to the continued impact they will make.
