Anti-Racism Week 2026: School Assemblies Across Gauteng

In the lead-up to Anti-Racism Week 2026, the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation invited schools and youth groups across Gauteng to participate in Assemblies Against Racism, aligned to the theme “Inclusive Always, Racism Never.”

During Anti-Racism Week (14–21 March), the Foundation conducted assemblies in 10 schools, reaching over 8,000 learners.

The assemblies created space for structured discussions on race, inclusion, and social cohesion. Learners engaged with practical questions on how to respond to discrimination, support their peers, and contribute to more inclusive school environments.

Sessions also provided historical context, including reflections on apartheid, to ground conversations in South Africa’s past and its continued impact on the present.

Each assembly concluded with learners taking an anti-racism pledge, affirming their commitment to challenge discrimination and promote dignity and inclusion within their schools and communities.

Call to Schools Across Gauteng- 2026

The 11th Annual Anti-Racism Week takes place from 14-21 March 2026. The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation will participate in and observe the week under the theme “Inclusive Always, Racism Never.”

Anti-Racism Week is an action-focused campaign aimed at deepening public understanding of how racism operates, how it continues to affect people and institutions, and what practical steps can be taken to challenge it. The week creates space for reflection, dialogue, and collective action rather than symbolic gestures.

This year’s programme is held under the theme “Inclusive Always, Racism Never.” The theme underscores the need for consistent commitment to equality, dignity, and non-racialism in everyday life, not only during commemorative moments.

As part of the week, the Foundation is inviting Gauteng schools and youth groups to participate in an Assembly Against Racism. These assemblies are designed to help learners engage critically with South Africa’s history of racialisation, recognise contemporary forms of racism, and build the confidence to foster more inclusive school environments.
