The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation will be hosting a live pledge-line on ITV Networks (DStv 347) and Radio Al Ansaar to raise funds towards the establishment of the Kathrada Youth Clubs. This is part of the Foundation’s vision to form 10 community youth clubs in the south of Johannesburg within the next year, where young people themselves can take up community based initiatives and develop their activism skills.
No strangers to youth work, the Foundation launched the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation Youth Leadership Programme which has brought young people together and helped them develop their activism through the year-long programme, Hundreds of youth have benefited and many have become champions for positive change in the various areas they have pursued.
And now the Foundation is calling on your support by either taking part in a pledge-line on ITV and Radio Al Ansaar or donating toward the community clubs on the Givengain cause page.
“Through the Youth Clubs, our members will be equipped to become champions of social cohesion and community building by being at the forefront of tackling current challenges”, said Ahmed Kathrada Foundation spokesperson Zaakirah Vadi. The youth clubs will see participants emulating the leadership lessons of lifelong activist Ahmed Kathrada.
The clubs also come at a time when young people in the country continue to grow up in poverty, with unemployment and poor living conditions and often have to deal with a myriad of challenges such as drug abuse, lack of access to resources, recreational facilities, high levels of inequality and poor quality education.
The pledge-line will take place on Saturday, 25th August from 20:00 – midnight on ITV (DSTV channel 347) and Radio Al Ansaar. You can also donate via the Foundation’s secure Givengain cause page, by visiting https://www.givengain.com/ cause/10852/ where you can donate. All proceeds will go toward establishing the community youth clubs.
