PROMINENT SOUTH AFRICAN LEADERS SPEAK ON NON-RACIALISM
In 2011, the Kathrada Foundation commissioned two researchers from the Centre for the Study of Democracy to conduct a study among 28 prominent South African leaders on their meanings and interpretations of non-racialism in contemporary South Africa. The selection of leaders that were interviewed in this study ranges from the ANC's Gwede Mantashe to the DA's Helen Zille, from former President Thabo Mbeki to former President FW de Klerk, and from leaders in legal and religious fraternities to leaders of civil society. The report is a broad synthesis of these conversations. The analysis does not only presented how leaders define non-racialism in a contemporary context, but also expresses what this means for society and pathways of change in this country. The publication highlights the importance of incisive leadership that address the challenges in building a non-racial future in South Africa, with passion and practicality.
