Racism, discrimination, prejudice and intolerance in society are realities of our lives that are of concern to the values and aims of a common humanity.
The initiative was announced by Gauteng Premier David Makhura in Sharpeville on Human Rights Day. March 21 was also marked as a national day against racism, and is observed globally as the International Day against Racial Discrimination.
Today a statute of Mandela will be unveiled in Palestine, and I cannot imagine a place more suitable for such an initiative. This statute will honour Madiba’s unique legacy.
