Good day</p> <p>Former finance minister Pravin Gordhan will deliver the 8th Ahmed Kathrada Foundation Annual Lecture on Saturday, 14 October in Johannesburg.</p> <p>Governance specialist, columnist and lawyer, Judith February will be the respondent to Gordhan’s address, which is aptly titled: Leadership for an 'uncaptured' state.</p> <p>The Foundation will also recognise an individual selected for this year's annual Anti-Racism Award. Yearly, an individual or organisation who has tackled racism is selected for the accolade.</p> <p>Event details are as follows:<br /> Venue: Wits Theatre, Corner Jorrisen and Station Streets, Braamfontein, Johannesburg.<br /> Time: 2.30pm. 1000 youth volunteers expected for Operation Winter Warm

Over the weekend of June 10 and 11, the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is set to convene some 1000 youth volunteers when they host a mass relief campaign known as Operation Winter Warm in Lenasia, Johannesburg. The youth will be addressed by various speakers before embarking on a door to door campaign to collect blankets, clothes, books and non-perishable food items for the less fortunate. The event is set to be one of the biggest door to door youth relief campaigns in the country. Guest speakers will include the Foundation's chairperson and former tourism minister, Derek Hanekom, and Executive Director of Section 27 Mark Heywood. Actors Ashish Gangapersad and Lelsey Musina, as well as South African Olympic medalist Khotso Mokoena will also be present. Palestinians to share insight into hunger strike

Members of the media are invited to an information sharing session on Sunday with sources from within Palestine on the current political prisoner hunger strike. Journalists will be allowed to interact via Skype with Palestinians who will provide an in depth account of the current conditions faced by Palestinian hunger strikers. The Skype discussion will be conducted with Majed Bamya, the Director of International Treaties at Palestine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was a former adviser at the European Parliament. Bamya is also instrumental in the Free Marwan Barghouthi and All Palestinian Prisoners campaign, which was launched by anti-apartheid struggle veteran Ahmed Kathrada and Marwan's wife Fadwa, on Robben Island in 2013. We are currently trying to secure Laith Abu Zeyad for the conversation as well. Abu Zeyad is the International Advocacy Officer of Palestinian prisoner rights group, Addameer. The purpose of the discussion is to allow journalists and editors an opportunity to interact with sources who have first hand information about the hunger strike, which is now in its 33rd day. There have been reports of of prisoners' physical conditions deteriorating drastically over the last few days, with concern being raised by activists about the possibilities of prisoners' losing their lives. The information sharing session will also include updates on the South African solidarity campaign. This follows the 24-hour solidarity hunger strike supported by amongst others, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa. It is essential that you RSVP.
