The Launch of the Foundation

30.08.2010

The Amhed Kathrada Foundation was launched on Saturday 30 August 2008 - its main focus will be on deepening non-racialism in society. With racism and xenophobia having reared their ugly heads in South Africa recently, the foundation aims to teach generations to come that non-racialism should be something to be constantly striven for. Cyril Ramaphosa, the Chairperson of the Foundation, said at the launch that although 15 years into democracy South Africa was still battling with people associating with each other on the basis of racial groups.

This centre will be situated alongside the Trade Route Mall in Lenasia, South of Johannesburg and it is aimed at reminding people of the anguishing past of racism and the victory of democracy, and teaching generations to come to strive for a completely non-racial society.

The launch was marked with a formal donation of the land by the representatives of Trade Route Mall Mr Said Mia and Mr Ismail Valli. Mr Kathrada and Mr Ramaphosa then formally turned the soil to mark the beginning of the building project. For further information please contact Shan on 0823731143.
